Bescom launches save-power campaign
With an aim to save 300 MW of energy, the city power utility, Bescom has launched a year long power saving campaign with activities such as flash mob dance, folk dance and street play, to promote the message of energy conservation. Energy Minister Shobha Karendlaje inaugurated the campaign on Friday.
The minister said, “This year, power consumption in the state touched 8526 MW and consumption has increased by 16 to 17 per cent,” said Shobha.
“We have been requesting malls to cut down on the use of escalators, lighting and other electrical appliances,” added Ms Karandlaje.
She said on the lines of Gujarat, state is planning a 500 MW solar park in Bijapur. For the campaign, BESCOM will be spending about `6 crore in one year.
