BBMP pitches for green Ganeshas
The BBMP has appealed to citizens of Bengaluru to install only eco-friendly Ganesha idol for the festival and help prevent pollution of lakes.
Palike commissioner Rajneesh Goel urged the citizens to refrain from buying idols which contain harmful chemicals as they adversely affect the water bodies.
The public have been requested to desist from bursting crackers and playing loud music near the lakes and immersion at ponds is prohibited after 10.30 pm, he said.
Mr Goel urged citizens to immerse Ganesha idols only in the immersion tanks created by BBMP at Ulsoor Lake, Sankey Tank, Yediyur Lake and Saneguruvanahalli Lake. In other areas, BBMP has identified 32 lakes for idol immersion and has also arranged 88 mobile tanks.
