BBMP contractor hacked to death
A 36-year-old civil contractor with the BBMP was murdered by a group of assailants in front of a corporator’s house in Papareddy Palya under Jnanabharathi police limits on Friday afternoon. Police identified the deceased as M. D Nagaraju, a resident of Laggere.
The assailants threw chilli powder into Nagaraju’s eyes and murdered him with deadly weapons around 12.30 pm. Passersby who witnessed the gory crime alerted the police. Nagaraju was waiting outside the house of Papareddy Palya corporator Venkatesha Babu on 6th cross near Adarsha Hospital. The six assailants came on a scooter and a car, and murdered him.
The police recovered the scooter, bearing the registration number KA 02 EF 3008 (Honda Activa), from the spot. Though the reason is yet to be ascertained, the police said it could be due to enmity.
Sources said a week ago, Nagaraju had a fight with rowdies Nani and Dilip in Rajagopalnagar. His family suspects that the two are behind the murder. They were involved in eve-teasing, gambling, chain snatching and other activities. After complaints, the police arrested them and released them a few days ago.
The brother of the deceased said, “My brother paid with his life for doing good to society. The two suspects, Nani and Dilip, are involved in anti-social activities and have created a sense of fear among the area residents. They collect hafta regularly and threaten people. Nagaraju had filed two police complaints against them. We are sure that the two rowdies and their associates murdered my brother.
It was not for the first time that the two rowdies had targeted Nagaraj and his family. They had earlier picked a quarrel with Nagaraju’s nephew Bharath two years ago. After the complaint, the police had arrested the duo.
