Balakrishne Gowda case hearing put off
The Lokayukta court has adjourned hearing in the disproportionate assets (DA) case against Mr H.D. Balakrishne Gowda to August 24. The court directed the complainant S.N. Balakrishna to submit objections to the chargesheet filed by the Lokayukta police. The Lokayukta police had filed a chargesheet in the case on August 7 stating that the accused possessed disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 5.24 core. However, the police had said that immediately after retirement under (Voluntary Retirement Scheme, Mr Gowda had made huge assets up to Rs 79 crore. The police had not considered the assets purchased after 2005, but have sought the court to decide on considering the post-VRS period.
The police have taken the service period (1985-2005) as the check period when Mr Gowda worked as a KAS officer. The chargesheet stated that the total income was Rs 15.18 crore while disproportionate assets was Rs 5.24 crore. The report stated that Mr Gowda’s wife Kavita has bought as many as 12 properties in 2005-2006 alone.
