Bail or jail: BSY has DVS to the wall
With the Karnataka High Court putting off its verdict on former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa’s application for advance bail by a day, doubts about whether the latest bout of dissidence against Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda will sputter out as in the past or whether it will be taken to its logical conclusion and force the CM’s exit, persist.
Thursday’s order by the high court would certainly have a bearing on the ongoing rebellion against the CM. If the court grants bail to Mr Yeddyurappa and his kin, at least six ministers will quit at BSY’s behest. If the court rejects his plea for advance bail, the leader has also put in place plans for the second rung to continue the rebellion against Mr Sadananda Gowda, sources in the state unit of BJP said.
The sources said those who raised the banner of revolt this time were irked by the fact that the Chief Minister was calling the shots in ministries headed by others. Soft spoken public works minister C.M. Udasi discovered to his dismay that two technocrats, known to be close to JDLP leader H D Revanna, were posted in his ministry. Mr Udasi was reportedly snubbed by Mr Sadananda Gowda when he sought to know why engineers of his choice were not posted in his department, turning it into yet another face-off between Lingayats and Vokkaligas.
