On b’day eve, youth falls 10 floors to death

Just on the eve of his 22nd birthday, an upcoming model and a Business Management student at CMR College plunged to death from a 10-storeyed building in Bhoopasandra under Sanjaynagar police limits early on Saturday.

Police have identified the deceased as Aditya Nair, the son of Mr Jagan Mohan, a retired Air Force officer currently employed as general manager with a leading realty company in the city. Aditya was pursuing his second-year degree course in Business Management.

According to police sources, Aditya Nair was to celebrate his 22nd birthday on April 8. Since most of his friends would have been out of town on Sunday, Aditya decided to host a birthday party in advance. He had organised his pre-birthday bash at the residence of his friend Namith, the son of a doctor who specialises in radiology, as Namith’s parents were out of town.

On Friday night, a few of his friends gathered at Namith’s residence on the 9th floor in Chartered Apartment in Bhoopasandra. Around 2 am, they decided to go to the terrace to continue their celebration. According to police, all the four friends were under the influence of alcohol. Aditya tried to get on to the water tank on the terrace and in the process, stepped on an asbestos sheet laid between two staircases. The asbestos sheet however gave way and Aditya fell 10 floors to his death.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Aditya’s elder brother said, “He was an above average student in studies. He loved modelling and had modelled for several reputed designers in the city. The news came as a sudden shock to us and we are still not able to come to terms that he is no more. He was a very cheerful person.”

According to Aditya’s father in his statement to the police, since it was an accident, none of his other friends who were present there could be blamed. However, Sanjaynagar police have registered a case.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
