Azlan’s friends pay tribute at football game
Friends and family came together to pay tribute to a football fan on his birthday. Azlan Ahmed, along with two of his friends, died in a tragic car accident at Hoskote on Febraury 21. Azlan, a hardcore fan of Manchester United and a footballer himself, had wished to start a football academy in Bengaluru.
On February 21, four students — Azlan S. Ahmed, Kiran Joseph Machado, Keshav Nandan Gulati and Rahul Peter, went on a late night drive to Kolar in Azlan’s father’s car, had met with an accident. Rahul was the only one to survive the accident. The families of the four boys were unaware of their drive till the news of the accident broke out.
On April 13, which is Azlan’s birthday, his family and friends organised a football tournament at St Joseph’s Arts and Science college in memory of Azlan and his friends Keshav and Kiran. Azlan’s father Mr Shuja Ahmed also organised meals for the participants. All the participants and spectators got together just before the finals for a cake-cutting ceremony at 4.45 pm, the time Azlan was born. All members of the 12 teams which participated in Friday’s Azlan Memorial Tournament, were friends or acquaintances of Azlan, Keshav or Kiran. Each team played two rounds. The final round was played between Al-Fateh (Azlan played for Al-Fateh) and Azlan’s Tamed Lions (a team of his cousins and family friends). Al-Fateh won the Azlan Memorial cup by beating Azlan’s Tamed Lions 4-1. Rahul Peter, the only survivor of the accident, gave away the Azlan Memorial Cup to the winning team.
