Ayukta files B report in Somanna case
The Lokayukta police have submitted the B report, or recommendation to close the investigation, in the alleged illegal land denotification in favour of minister V. Somanna. Earlier, the court had rejected the B report and issued summons to the accused.
The private complaint filed before the Lokayukta court stated that the BDA acquired land for the formation of Jnanabharathi Layout in Nagadevanahalli, including Survey No. 77. The property, belonging to one Deve Gowda, had been divided between his wife Lingamma and sons.
In May 2010, Lingamma claiming to the sole owner of Survey No 77 applied for denotification of 30 guntas of land.
Then Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa directed the authorities to place the file before him. The complaint stated that within five days, the Principal Secretary to the Urban Development Department requested the BDA Commissioner to prepare a spot report on the status of the land.
The denotification was ordered under humanitarian grounds that Lingamma was a widow and mother of five children, and she had no other source of income.
The complainant alleged that 22 guntas of the same land were denotified illegally. It was later purchased in 2004 to construct a school run by Mr Somanna’s wife Sylaja.
The Lokayukta police have submitted a B report, stating that there was no illegality found in the alleged purchase of land and the de-notification ordered by Mr Yeddyurappa.
