Another MLA in soup

After obtaining necessary sanction from the Speaker, the Lokayukta police on Friday filed a chargesheet against Dasarahalli BJP MLA S. Muniraju.

He has been charged with various offences under Prevention of Corruption Act and Indian Penal Code.

The court has posted the case for order on issuing summons to the accused and others, to July 17
Complainant Puttaswamy had alleged that the MLA and two other public servants — Ranganath, the then tahsildar of Bengaluru North taluk who is now posted in Ramanagaram, and Revenue Inspector Suresh — had committed offences under Prevention of Corruption Act and IPC.

According to the complainant, Mr Muniraju had grabbed 1.5 acres of land owned by his mother-in-law Mallamma in Yeshwantpur hobli by fabricating documents in collusion with a few others. The investigating authorities have registered an FIR and are probing the matter.

DKS seeks advance bail Congress leader and former minister D.K. Shivakumar on Friday approached the Lokayukta court seeking anticipatory bail in a private complaint alleging that he had illegally denotified government land.

Recently, the high court had granted him interim bail, but had made it clear that it will be in force till the Lokayukta court considers his application for regular anticipatory bail.

According to the chargesheet filed by the Lokayukta police, Mr Shivakumar has been found guilty of buying notified land measuring 4.20 acres in 2003 in Benniganahalli, Bengaluru East, getting it registered after bearing pressure on the sub-registrar, getting a khata for the land after influencing the officials of the Revenue department within two days and then getting it converted for residential purposes by the Special DC and entering into a joint agreement with Purvankara Builders.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
