Ailing Naxals to lay down arms?
As the Centre and states go head to head on the issue of security, a top ranking CPI (Maoist) leader in Karnataka B.G. Krishnamurthy reportedly wants to surrender as both, he and his wife, dreaded Naxal leader Hosagadde Prabha are in failing health.
Intelligence sources said Krishnamurthy, who unleashed a reign of terror in Dakshina Kannada district after he joined the Kudremukh agitation in 2002, has been sending feelers to the state government and police, with the proviso that the government drop all criminal cases against them. Hence, the hurried announcement on March 29 assuring safe passage to surrendering Maoists by then director general and inspector of police Shankar M. Bidari and the government halting combing operations for three days at the time. Equally keen on the surrender, new DG & IGP, A.R. Infant offered to make the surrender package more attractive.
Krishnamurthy and Prabha, have nearly 30 cases registered against them. Ailing for several years, Prabha reportedly has a clot in her brain while Krishnamurthy suffers from diabetes and hypertension. A `5 lakh bounty for information on the fugitive couple was announced in 2010.
