7-yr-old raped, murdered and dumped in lake

In yet another shocker, a 7-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by a 28-year-old man on Saturday night at Nallurahalli in Whitefield. Police, however, managed to arrest the culprit within a few hours after the incident was reported.

The victim was the daughter of daily wage labourers Basavaraju and Mahadevi, natives of Raichur, who had come to the city in search of work four years ago. The accused has been identified as Nagaraju who was working as a helper in an automobile workshop close to the victim’s house.

According to police, the victim had gone to the Mariyamma temple with her sisters on Saturday night where free food was being served. The accused, who was also there, lured her with the promise of getting her biscuits and allegedly took her to an isolated place where he raped her. Noticing that the girl was unconscious, he carried her and threw her into a nearby lake fearing that the victim would tell her parents. The girl’s parents got worried when her sisters returned home without her, and approached the police. The victim’s sisters told the police that they had seen her last with Nagaraju. When he was picked up and questioned, Nagaraju confessed to the crime and police recovered the body from the lake. Whitefield police have registered a case.
