2,116 schools short-listed for RTE quota in city
Come June 1, poor students from economically weaker families of the city will get admission for free in 2,116 private, non-minority schools of the city. They also include prestigious CBSE/ICSE and state syllabus schools in the city. According to the data forwarded by the district project coordinators of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA), 937 schools in Bengaluru North academic district and 1,379 in Bengaluru South are eligible for the 25 percent reservation under the RTE Act. Data is based on the District Information System for Education (DISE) 2011-12.
Education department officials said they are ready with data for the entire state and would upload the list of all schools onto the department website soon for verification by the people. This is to avoid exclusion of any non-state syllabus schools. According to DISE data, 153 schools in the city are minority schools, which include both religious and linguistic minority schools. A recent SC order kept these schools out of the purview of RTE.
