20-day-old baby poisoned by father
In a horrifying incident, a 20-day-old baby girl was allegedly poisoned to death by her father as he wanted a baby boy at Haadihosahalli village in Thyamgondlu of Nelamangala taluk of the Bengaluru Rural district on Sunday. Baby’s mother Savitha (20) filed a police complaint that the child was made to drink donkey’s milk laced with poison by her husband Nandish (25), a mechanic, on Sunday. Donkey’s milk is given to newborns as it is considered healthy. Nandish has since been arrested by the Thyamgondlu police.
Savitha told the police that she was shocked to see the baby frothing in the mouth on Sunday afternoon and rushed her to the Thyamagondalu Government Hospital. As the child required a higher care, she was shifted to the Tumkur Government Hospial, where the baby died within 10 minutes of admission. Savitha alleged that her husband killed the child as he did not want a baby girl, the police said.
The police said there are two versions doing the rounds on the reason behind the crime. It is alleged that Nadish consulted an astrologer, who advised him to eliminate his daughter as she was born under the inauspicious rahu kala and that he would die within the next two months. He was also told that he would be safe if the girl is killed within two months.
The other theory is that Nandish brought donkey’s milk in a plastic bottle that may have had traces of some harmful drugs, leading to the child’s death, the police said. The bottle has been sent for forensic examination. The postmortem will give the exact reason behind the child’s death, the police said. Nandish denied that he killed the baby and told the police that he loved the child. The police said he will be thoroughly investigated.
