13-year-old-mother receives death threats
The 13-year-old girl, who delivered a baby boy in April this year after she was raped, and the baby himself, are facing threats. “The family has been receiving death threats. Now, the accused are threatening to kill the baby, who is the only evidence in the rape case as the police are yet to take the baby’s DNA sample to match it with that of the accused to establish the rape,” said Advocate Ramananda A.D., the girl’s counsel. The threat came a day after the family registered a complaint with the HC, the Lokayukta and the commissioner of police claiming they were being ostracised and threatened. The girl’s parents on Wednesday filed a fresh complaint of criminal trespass and threat to kill the baby at Srirampuram police station.
“At around 2 am on Wednesday, our daughters who were sleeping upstairs, heard someone knocking on the door and warning that they would have to kill the baby born to our daughter, Shama Taj at any cost. After that, we had a sleepless night,” the girl’s parents said in the complaint. Copies of the complaint have been sent to the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, the Lokayukta, the Commissioner of Police and the Chief Justice of the Karnataka HC. The family has also repeated its plea for police protection which was withdrawn on August 3. On August 6, the family had complained of being ‘traumatised and ostracised from the community”.
They claimed the girl, after being taken back to the school , was being discriminated against. They have alleged that their shop was ransacked by relatives of the accused. However, Mr Venugopal, Inspector at Sriramapuram police station said: “The family continues to have police protection. It was never withdrawn and the allegations of threats and attacks are baseless.”
