Being Amy
She may be new to Bollywood, but this Teen Queen needs no introduction. Pretty with a charming smile and a much-talked about debut, British-born Amy Jackson is all set to make India and Bollywood her home. In an exclusive chat, the star of the moment talks about the journey so far.
About her journey from being crowned Ms Teen World to Bollywood, she says, “I was lucky enough to win the Miss Teen Liverpool and The Miss Teen Great Britain pageants — Ms Teen World, this obviously opened more avenues in the modelling world, which further brought me onto the silver screen. But my India tryst started down South with Madrasapattinam — my first ever Tamil film. It was there that director Gautham Menon first saw me and signed me for Ek Deewana Tha, which is a remake of Vinnaithaandi Varunvaa. And I stepped into the world of Hindi cinema.”
About Ek Deewana Tha, she says, “I play a Malayali Christian in the film. Being a Christian, it was an easy character to play.” The model-cum-actor goes on to talk about the Hosanna controversy, “The word ‘Hosanna’ personifies ‘love’ in a respectful manner. Being a Christian I find nothing wrong with the way it has been used in the song. It is just a particular section of people that is trying to create some problems. But love is what we all long for. And that is exactly what this song has gained popularity for.”
Much has been written about her and her co-star Prateik. “Initially, he wasn’t much friendly, but as time went by, we shared a good time. Prateik is a fun-loving person and I love him for being himself. He kept me busy and was full of life with his humour. I remember towards the end of our schedule, I would even share the tiniest of issues with him. I guess his quick-wittedness solved many of my problems with ease. He also has been a good teacher. He taught me the way the industry works here.”
“I’m still talking to many filmmakers, both from the South and Bollywood. At the moment, however, my complete focus is on my debut Hindi film, Ek Deewana Tha,” she adds.
About her first day on the sets of a Hindi film, Amy says, “It wasn’t a cakewalk. I am beautiful, yes, and have faced the camera before too. But here I had to act and my Hindi isn’t exactly what I would like to call my asset now. But thanks to Prateik, I could get out of my shell and inhibition and perform well.”
On her career as a model that is swiftly transcending to acting, she says, “Modelling and acting are two different aspects. While modelling enriches your presentation skills, acting is far more than that. It demands that you be expressive with your emotions, and do so well.”
